The Whabouchi Mine

Geographic location

The Whabouchi mine is located in Eeyou Istchee - James Bay territory, 30 kilometres from the Cree Community of Nemaska and 350 kilometres north of Chibougamau.

Ore mining

In the first 24 years, production will be extracted from an open-pit lithium mine at a rate of 2,830 tonnes of mineral per day. In the final nine years, production will be extracted from an underground lithium mine at a rate of 3,665 tonnes per day.

Since the project's very beginning, Nemaska Lithium has been proud to put forward and incorporate the best eco-friendly and operational practices in the mining industry. The Whabouchi project was designed to minimize its potential environmental and social footprints.

Commitment

In this spirit, Nemaska Lithium has entered into a unique agreement with the Grand Council of the Crees (Eeyou Istchee), the Cree Nation Government and the Cree Nation of Nemaska that establishes the framework for its relations with this community, in connection with the mine's development and operations, for the entire life of the Whabouchi project and beyond.

Ramp up

Currently under construction, the Whabouchi mine will be commissioned in the second quarter of 2019 and will employ over 200 people.
